An Eruv is a ritual enclosure around Orthodox Jewish homes or communities. An Eruv enables a person to carry objects outside on the Jewish Sabbath that would otherwise be forbidden by the Torah. Without it, on the Sabbath, observant Jews would be forbidden from pushing baby carriages, or having items like keys in their pockets.
